Modules
The scheme is modular,  Modules are self contained units of learning which can be undertaken in their own right but can also lead to credit.  Credit is awarded at one of two Levels.

Levels and Credits
The university recognises two Levels within IMICS, Level 3 (for Higher) is undergraduate equivalent.  Level 4 (for Masters) is postgraduate equivalent.  Modules at both levels earn 30 credits.  In most modules in the Scheme Levels 3 (H) and 4 (M) are taught together although they have different assessment requirements.  You need to complete 180 credits for the MA.

Time, place and cost
How long?  You may study at your own pace.  Most individuals register for one module in the first instance and increase the number of modules per semester when they become familiar with the Scheme.  You may take up to five years to complete the award.  More usually, individuals take two or three years.  You may take a semester out at any time by negotiation, provided you complete within five years. You may not take two semesters out in sequence.

When?  Many modules are taught 5.30-8.30pm on weekday evenings, mainly Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays.  Some are for day release only.  Each subject modules has it's own pattern.

Where?  Most of the modules are taught at Belstead House. Increasingly, modules can be delivered in a school context when there is sufficient demand.

How much?
Module fee- £400 per module
Suffolk teacher module fee - £200 per module

Reflective writing                                                Digital Storytelling
Managing people in educational organisations         Preparing to write your dissertation

For the MA a module on research and methodology is a compulsory prerequisite to the dissertation

Dissertation
MA is completed by a dissertation.  This may take the form of a traditional dissertation or may be some other form of negotiated project.  For the MA, choice is wide provided it is professionally relevant.  Dissertations may only be started at the beginning of a normal semester following achievement of the required total of credits from other modules.

Accredited Prior Learning (APL) at Level 4 (M)
We are committed to giving prior learning its due recognition.  It is relatively straightforward to gain credits for many other assessed courses and for some LEA-provided activities.

You can also gain credit for significant prior experiential learning.  A module has been devised to assist you with this.  It is usually offered each semester.

You should note that accreditation is only given to individuals who formally registered with the scheme and are participating in a taught element of the programme.
